Maybe its age, maybe its just me, but I am finding that concentrating on driving is as much as I can do, and fiddling with sat nav or even talking on the hands off phone can be distracting. This morning, on my way to play race officer for a yacht race, I was talking to my race officer predecessor about tide, weather and the best course, and I went through some lights just as they were changing form orange to red.

This is a first for telephone ditraction but not for satnav which is why I use blue tooth and an earpiece rather than a screen when on the bike. I've seen truck drivers texting whilst their rig waves about the lane and I've had the same happen to me when using the sat nav.

As I said at the beginning , this maybe just me but I do wonder. I'm not a pious H&s type - far from it. My inclinations are always to ignore rules. But is using a satnav with a screen whilst the car is moving safe? I doubt it.

Anything with a touch screen has me driven to distraction.

I was wondering how people got on safely in the UK using these devices without a co pilot?
Probably will find out later in the year doing some miles on my own in Mog.
Though before the days of electronic navigation I seemed to find my way around ok, whats changed? And do we have recommendations for a morgan friendly satnav- or stick to the phone?

There's simply no excuse in my view to use any form of touchscreen device whilst driving.

Quite apart from being a dangerous distraction, it's indicative of poor planning (set the thing up properly before you leave), poor time keeping (not leaving enough contingency to pull over into a layby) or just plain arrogance (the rules don't apply to me).

But its not just a matter of setting up Hamwich. I find even looking at a satnav screen a distraction leaving me inclined to wander just a bit about my lane. If the map isnt that clear and working it out takes longer, then the wandering is greater.

I'm not sure whether this is just me, my age and my speed of thought. But whilst nothing nasty has yet happened, I am a lot less confident these days that I can cope with any distraction.

Some of the new citroen range of cars only have a touch screen. You have to use it to operate basic items like the heating controls, radio sat nav etc.

you have to go through a basic menu system... definitely would be a distraction on the move.

Great cars though Teslas my be I doubt I could safely drive one as apart from the hazard warning button legally required & the stalks everything is touch screen controlled. I reckon my Mustang has the mix largely correct as I can adjust radio volume by feel on the knob & put front & rear screens on demist, adjust fan speed etc without diving through menus.

All folks with distraction problems should change to premium cars from Germany with head up displays.
Do not allow beautiful girls in or next to cars. They could strongly irritate driver attentiveness too. Saudi Arabia will learn soon, what they have done to their save driving system by lifting dress- and driving laws for women.

I think you answer your own question Howard, age and speed of thought.
I remember my old dad going from being a good driver to twitching in lanes just concentrating on changing gears.

Time you bought a Morgan to go fast slowly.

I find that it's easier if the satnav is placed closer to one's eye line - which is why built-in satnavs are a bit pants as you can't change their position.
