Just took my Morgan for a wheel alignment check. The garage, one of the Micheldever group is unable to do it now as they do not have the figures to input into their machine.
I will try to find another tyre place that has less sophisticated alignment kit.

It got me thinking; has anyone got experience of the Gunson G4008 Trakrite wheel alignment gauge?

Anyone know where to get the wheels aligned in the Stratford on Avon / Evesham area.

Toe In is the only adjustment that can be made. Caster and camber are set at the factory.

I use two sections of light pipe that slide into each other. Measure the distance between the tires as high as you can both front and back. There should be 1/16" difference. The front measurement being shorter than the rear.

No experience with the Gunson G4008.

A number of people I respect use Trackrite and for cars without camber and castor adjustment it gives good results.

These days as a lot of cars have more things to adjust the full Laser rigs appear to be the way to go.

I believe the latest Audi's and Merc's need the alignment rig connected to the ECU to complete the adjustments and tie everything together.

Yes this is good advice; I use a wood beam with right angled extensions that project back parallel to the wheel rims. Measurements then taken in towards the rim edges, front and rear, gives the difference between the front and back, so finding the toe-in. The track rods on my 4/4 at each end have four threads per 5mm, so 1 full rotation of the rod gives 5mm at each end. And just 1/8th of a turn gives 0.31mm in total.

I use the Button method and have done so from way back.

My frame is timber and allows a reasonably accurate measurement at the 9 o'clock and three o'clock position on the rims. To within a sixteenth so it is good enough.

I have found out (the hard way) that this "toe-in" measurement must be accurate. All sorts of funny handling comes of a "toe-out condition as well as terrible tire (tyre) wear.

Guys, thanks for your input. David thank you for your kind gesture, I am not one to borrow.
I will give the string method a try to see whether or not an adjustment is required and then find a garage that can do the alignment.

The Morgan is not in the system of the kit the garage I use has. What they do is but in a Capri (similar width) and then use the hand book numbers and ignore the "traffic lights" on the display. More fiddly but works.
