& what I wonder would be your ideal Aero GT spec?

How about GT3 wings front & rear. They've been through a wind tunnel, and are race proven.

A racier cat would release power & noise.

The FIA must have a spec for bonnet catches - and they'll be no less expensive than the polished & sprung standard fittings. And would look the part.

As would a deeper rear diffuser.

De-chrome the bonnet hinge & grille while we're at it.

& make the purchase of a carbon hard top mandatory. ('cos there's a fair few left in the warehouse - who else is going to buy them?)

Knock-off magnesium wheels to save weight, give a racing feel, and a nod to the S1. Fit with track-biased road-legal tyres for launch purposes.

Carbon tillet seats, optional amp, speakers, leather & carpeting to save weight & improve profit margins when owners pay to have them anyway.

None of that costs Morgan much at all to offer - but it's different enough from the 'standard' Aero to justify a different model designation.

& if there were cash to develop it, you'd save weight in the boot lid & the heavy duty hinges that carry it, lowering the centre of gravity while you're at it.
Make it in carbon - and with lightweight, forward-opening hinges that might mess up boot space, but would allow for a decent sized wing.

& while you're at it, a race styleee fuel filler cap, accessible without opening the boot.

PS If Morgan offer a clear matt hardtop finish, I'm claiming a royalty.

The Porsche RS approach. Give less, and make it more expensive laugh

The race cars have a one piece bonnet, no hinge. The whole thing lifts off!

I think the car will be the standard series 5 Aero without any mechanical changes so current engine mated with the 6 speed manual gearbox and stock suspension with roll bars etc, not the suspension set up off the earlier cars. The differences will be what we have seen from the teaser photos with a different looking rear diffuser, i.e with the front and rear wings designed to look like the race cars.

Interiors possibly looking a little different but the tillet seats and a motolita wheel likely options.

I keep thinking about whether to buy. What puts me off is if it is just a series 5 with a styling exercise then whilst it will look interesting, it's not enough for me and a 50th Anniversary +8 would interest me more.

If there are quite a lot of real differences with handling/performance then I would re-evaluate as it would be a nice compliment to the GTN.

I wasn't going to Geneva this year as I am off-roading in Portugal with BMW first week in March but my usual partner in crime for the Geneva jaunts has twisted my arm so we are flying rather than driving and attending on the 2nd Friday so will see them all in the metal!

It’s one of eight. This is what can make it “special”.

If it's one of eight but a stock Aero with some different body panels on it then it does not justify the +£50k price tag in my opinion. Eight or eight hundred it makes no difference, +£50k is quite frankly daylight robbery - so one would hope it's not a stock Aero in a different coat otherwise we are into the Emperors clothing territory.

If it is a stock Aero and the +£50k is justified simply because they are making eight, then in essence it is an implied investment/asset.... rather than a motor vehicle. That doesn't sit so well with me unfortunately!!

I was considering one myself and spoke to a dealer. However they couldn't tell me whether it was a stock car underneath or not. Were it not, I might well have gone for one simply for the driving experience. If it is a stock car underneath....I can get the same experience driving my S5!!

My thoughts entirely and the same goes for the new plus 8. Ill have a serious look though.
