So my Plus 4 went into Krazy Horse for a very thorough service yesterday - once again brilliant service and at a fair price.
But for the second year running I had advisories (from their neighbouring MoT station) on the indicators being too pale. Last year I went to a local motor factors and went through their box of bulbs and picked the darkest orange bulbs and swapped them out. This time the MoT tester just picked two from the four as being to pale. I had a chat with him when I left - nice chap with a classic camper... but I digress. I asked why he thought mine were pale when there are millions of cars out there with clear indicator lenses and no problem. He thought the lenses were too thick.
Now I have heard that the clear lenses don't come with reflectors like the original orange ones - if that is so that could add to the problem. I don't, of course, have the originals, so I cannot look at those for butchering....
Anyone else getting this issue????
Nick

Why dont you go into an art shop and purchase a tiny bottle of glass paint in orange, paint all 4 and if it fades you still have some. Lasts for years problem solved smart arse at MOT place eradicated .

Well mainly because the bulbs are as orange as an orange thing... seems pointless painting them!!!! He did mention some Seat bulbs that have a crinkle finish but cost a fortune but that are "very orange"....

I seem to recall that some orange bulbs are silvered?
I also recall that some orange bulbs have offset pins.
The silver reflectors fit the orange lenses and the clear lenses. I painted mine with white primer. I think it lifts the colour.
My lenses are orange.
Ps. Orange lens repair tape might help.

Nick I have clear lenses all round on the Aero with Cree LED's in them. They are clear to look at unlit but flash a deep orange. The only snag is you will need either an LED flasher relay or piggy back some resistors on each unit otherwise they will flash too quickly - and upset your MOT man.... James

My wife’s 2009 Fiesta failed mot yesterday with same issue but only on rear indicators. All bulbs are original Ford factory fitment and personally I could see no difference between front and back. Unless they have a special instrument to measure the actual colour, then it’s all very subjective. Twaddle! Incidentally, though many people seem to be “upgrading” to clear lenses for aesthetic reasons, I have had several close calls in bright sunlight where clear lens indications have simply not been sufficient. I’m sticking with good old fashioned orange lenses which leave you in little doubt.

Any idea what they are originally off? 2012 plus 4. Could it be a land rover?

Are you sure that you have 21watt bulbs in the holder.
Also it could be that the wiring has a bit of corrosion causing voltage drop.
If you switch with the bulbs that are okay and it is the same position at fault, is there a difference ie reflector absent in one lot and not the other?
