Peter. I appeared to get a standard contract but I was so pleased to get a publisher (as a first time amateur) that I didn't really give the finance much thought.
I also approached Veloce but by the time they got back to me, Crowood had jumped on it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed your M3W book!

John happy to hear that. It will keep you out of MrsR's hair for a while!

The first problem I had when Crowood asked me to do a book about the Lamborghini Countach was that they refused a percentage deal and insisted on a fixed fee. I should have walked away. But they assured me that they would find all the necessary photos if I gave them a list. I reckoned that it was just about all right on that basis because I could handle the writing side with a combination of material I already had and some useful contacts.

About three weeks before the date for delivery of all material, I checked how they were getting on with photos, apart from some that I had supplied from the archives of Fast Lane, which I edited at the time. It turned out that they had done the square root of bugger all! I had to spend a lot of time and effort doing the job for them, for no increase in my fee.

I expect the Crowood people are more professional these days.

My experience with Veloce has been entirely positive, both with my M3W book and my new effort, on sale in a few days (there is some Morgan stuff in it!):

Just ordered from WHS in Clacton. Interestingly they think they are waiting for a re-print. Great news for you Dave if true.

Ordered mine with Amazon.
Interestingly, in the “people who bought this item, also bought “ section; the first book on the list was Losing Weight For Good by Tom Kerridge.

Got mine today. Looks great and the usual Dave W thoroughness. Very impressed with the quality of the print and photos. I am sure the text and content will be just as good. Well done Dave.
