I've now replaced the followers and Cams, see Re: Zetec-Replacing camshaft on this forum.
The car started up fine with just a little tappet noise, I revved up and held the revs at 2000+ for the recommended 20 minutes. On dropping back to idle I noticed a pronounced ticking.
I started the engine up again this morning, no ticking but when warmed up the ticking became quite loud.
Any clues anybody?

Are you sure you got the timing correct? I had similar on a Peugeot 16v engine, turned out to be a bent valve after a botched cambelt change (not by me!) Ran perfectly with good compression on all the pots though!
