We were out with my niece a few years ago. I was there on credit card carrying duties only.
She was looking at clothes and I was standing at the counter in the clothes shop. A very well dressed lady in her mid 30's came up to the counter to pay for some ripped jeans.
The assistant said "that is £40 thank you" to the lady! Just for devilment I said " excuse me those jeans are ripped, they should be sold at a large discount as the lady will have to repair them after purchase."
Both the shop assistant and the well dressed lady looked at me as if I was from a different planet.
Nothing unusual there then!

how big are the holes in your jeans
This is one aspect of modern life that I think is simply marvellous. We used to think being poor was something, if not to be ashamed of, at least something to be discreet about, one never liked to flaunt one's poverty. But nowadays we see young ladies, clearly of limited financial means, proudly walking around despite the fact they cannot even afford the thread to darn the holes in their jeans. They aren't ashamed of their poverty, and jolly good luck to them! I have to say though that this doesn't seem to have improved their manners. Whenever I stop to congratulate them on their self-confidence, I get very short shrift. I can't think why...

Don't know about the jeans but I fear us kiwis are to blame for flat whites as they started here then spread across the Tasman in the eighties. I was surprised to see how they had caught on in the uk during the last few years. Actually I found that a good cup of tetleys in the morning was my choice over there, before pulling on my jeans sans holes.

Can’t beat a nice Cortado. A small but mighty coffee. A rich, intense cup topped off with textured milk. It packs the biggest punch of coffee...
