Just ordered School for Scoundrels on Blu-Ray from Amazon
Couldnt resist - I remember seeing it when I was in my early teens in the 80's on TV one afternoon and thinking it to be the most perfect comedy
One of my favourites that I haven't seen in 30 odd years You won't regret it, it's a classic. Wendy & I watch a lot of old films, mostly British. The company Network Onair (formerly Network DVD) have a huge collection. It's worth subscribing to their mailing list, once or twice a year they have a sale with big discounts, I usually wait until then to stock up. And as mentioned by Ray in the original post, the place to watch classic films and old television is Talking Pictures TV. I have it added to my favourites, they often have minor films that are all but forgotten but nevertheless very enjoyable. I watched The Dark Rider earlier this week with Jimmy Hanley as an amateur motorcycle racer and Lionel Jeffries as a foreign agent assembling an atomic bomb in a castle in Devon! Great stuff. ~iw great find Ray / Ian;just set record for this - Thu 22 Mar 18 @ 10:30 Oh, Mr Porter! 1937. Comedy. Directed by Marcel Varnel. Stars Will Hay, Graham Moffatt & Moore Marriott. What a ghastly paint job. Let's hope it's been fixed since then. The history of the Bentley is on the Vintage Bentley Site.

£475 for an old Bentley would probably have seemed quite a decent sale price for the early 60's.
Indeed! The car itself came up for sale at Fiskens in 2010 and I calculated back then that £475 in 1961 equated to £7882, quite a decent price for a second-hand car. Fiskens sold it for £550,000 so nevertheless a good investment, and I reckon it would get a fair bit more today. The Fast Lady is worth getting on DVD. It contains a dream sequence in which Stanley Baxter races the Bentley at Silverstone against Graham Hill and John Surtees, with Raymond Baxter commentating - a scene which they used to cut for the TV showings (remember when TV used to show films like this?!)  iw

Does anyone remember the Shell films ( Other companies were available ) that we used to watch in school hall if it was a wet play time?
I seem to recall some really good car based films especially the one where a young chap has an old ( vintage now ) car and is trying to get a girl whose current boy friend had a Healey.
Here for a good time not a long time!!

The Shell Motorsport films were made by the late Bill Mason, the father of Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason. Probably accounts for Nicks interest in classic cars. Not a lot of people know that.

Well, that does sound like the plot of School for scoundrels. Terry Thomas plays the Healey driving bounder who snaffles the young lady in whom the hero (played by Ian Carmichael) is interested. The Carmichael character then goes out to buy a sports car and ends up being conned into buying an awful old Swiftmobile.....

Almost. Terry-Thomas drives the "new Bellini", which is actually a thinly disguised Aston Martin DB3S. The Austin Healey appears later in the film ... but I think that's enough spoilers, Stewart might not have watched it yet.
I well remember the Shell films from school but I seem to recall they were mostly documentaries or travelogues, the latter sometimes narrated by John Betjeman. I don't remember any dramas. Occasionally, if we were lucky, when the film had ended we could persuade the teacher to respool it backward through the projector so we'd watch the whole thing again in reverse.
