I wasn't going to say anything with all this talk about BMW engines but obviously you guys have not seen the article published in Quattroruote, the Italian motoring magazine, which covers the proposed agreement between the Fiat Chrysler Group, Mazda, and Morgan to develop two common sports car platforms. Engines available will be a wide choice from that used in the FIAT and Mazda sports car platform up to the Maserati engine to be used in the GT models.

It really looks quite promising for further interesting developments including the return of Morgan to GT racing.

Only my thoughts, but I think it’s pointless for Morgan to waste too much time developing electric and hybrid just now. Fine, take all the money on offer and ask for more, but the product they have sells well already, keep it simple stick to the most available IC units.
All the emissions from all the Morgans worldwide, must amount to next to nothing, doorbells probably cause more damage. They’re not really used as modes of transport anyway, most are just for fun and cover few miles.
Couple that to the environmental impact of the production and lifespan of the cars, Morgan deserve some credit for that and it would make sense to relax some emissions regulation for them in lieu of the low impact their product has on the environment.
They shouldn’t diversify, rather, continue to specialise and improve in the sector they occupy. Stretch every regulation to the bitter end, ( as they have done with the BM V8). Stick on a couple of bike pedals and a chain, just to satisfy the mugs who dished out the six million and carry on as normal. laugh2

Peter, is that the "new" development Mazda are working on that I read about somewhere recently?
Petrol engine with the economy of diesel?

Now any tie up with Mazda makes sense as the gdi engine is basically a Mazda engine and Morgan already uses the MX 5 gearbox.
The MX5 being rear wheel drive and this with BMW offers a rear wheel drivetrain.
I see no problem in Morgan announcing their plans as in effect they have 2 cars out of production and 3 with engines of doubtful future. This is effectively their total 4 wheel range.
An announcement that they are working with BMW, Ford, Mazda or whoever on future engines seems sense to me.

The £535 annual road tax on mine suggests it kills polar bears and penguins every time I look at it.

Excellent work there!

I read Steve Morris had announced that Morgan is solving the future of the Aero platform by buying BMW & putting the venerable V8 back into production. To make it economical, every BMW model will have a V8 (but not all cylinders will be enabled in low and mid-series engines).
