Does anyone know the reason why fuel and air blows out of my fuel cap every time I open it ?
It only happens after driving the car, even for a short journey.
I have had a new fuel tank fitted under warranty due to a split at high level resulting in a petrol leak. I have owned my 4/4 one year now and always experienced a sudden rush of air escaping when opening the fuel cap, even before the new tank was fitted. I thought this was normal with petrol cars, as my other cars have all been diesels.
I did explain this to the dealer during the new tank install, and it was told it’s all working as it should do when the tank was fitted. The rollover valve was operating as it should, but it wasn’t in the best location so the mechanic repositioned it.
Anyway, I have just returned from a short drive in this lovely weather, I opened the fuel cap and got sprayed with petrol !!
My next plan is to ring the dealer on Monday, but I just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this ?

I get it occasionally but then a small puff as it vents.

I've never experienced this one. It's clearly over pressurising, maybe due to todays warmth, but it should vent off somehow..

The dealers now seen the video I sent, and just phoned (great service even out of hours)
It appears the rollover valve needs to be repositioned with a longer piece of pipe.
This apparently is more common with the 4/4 Sport due to no spare wheel, where the inner plastic luggage tray is in contact with the roll over valve, stopping it to breath / release air.
A new pipe will be ordered then a trip back to the dealer and get fixed. Result 👍

I had a longtime fuel smelling and leaking problem and got also sprayed with petrol during the last summer.
The reason was a buckled petrol hose between the petrol tank and the roll over valve on top of the tank. The underlying cause was a broken bracket of the roll over valve. Subsequently the pressure in the petrol tank is encreased.
Now I‘ve fixed the roll over valve and renewed the petrol hose - all problems are solved since I made this modification.

Craig I'm glad the dealer is revisiting the problem.
