A lot depends on what lacquer is applied my first satin car was the Carver which was black with a satin finish back in 2007. That did ok with scratches and chips but of course fingerprints showed up instantly!
The Aero didn't have any kind of lacquer but the paint had additives to give it texture so it wasn't a smooth matt. The texture gave it more of a satin look and got closer to my original idea of a matt metallic which wasn't available as a water based paint at the time (just 3 months later Mercedes had it on all their show cars!).
The texture solved the fingerprint issue. Stone chips were still a problem, especially as the primer base was off white! It made the chips stand out more so I had the front repainted and changed to black primer. The cost was exorbitant though! With all the additives included the materials were 5 times the cost of all the materials in the restoration of my Ferrari and that was just to do the front!
Thanks again for your interest and advice everybody. It really is super to share these pleasures with those of like mind.
I know green cars can tend to blend into the fields but confess I hadn't thought about grey blending in to the tarmac so point noted there!
Williams have identified a cleaning (and apparently waxing) pack designed and manufactured specifically for matt/satin finishes so I'm holding back until I've collected that stuff at the first sevice - so the car is currently a patchwork of fingerprints!

I have a bunch of Swisswax stuff specially for non gloss cars. However, there is a good shampoo that Meguirs do, forget the name but it is a purple colour. It doesn't have shining agents like most car shampoos so is very good for matt and satin cars and not extortionate either!
I used Dr Beasley's stuff, which is American & chuffing expensive it seems.. I got halfway through a tiny sample bottle in almost 18 months, and it's good.
Looking around, it seems there's quite an array now. Just don't polish or wax..!!
I seem to remember a conversation I had with Mark Evans about cleaning finger marks off the Matt ARP4 body and he said that Aero Racing use a glass cleaner for greasy finger marks

Just asking - how do all these concours people view these Matt paint finishes I'm wondering. I like them but wouldn't have one myself as they seem pretty high maintenance.
