If you have one fitted, have you checked the fuel filter?

You might also wish to check the gauze filter in the Weber.

Many thanks to everyone who took the time to reply to my post. I'm always impressed with the level of knowledge on this forum.

I'll begin with the condenser and work my way up the price scale.

The car wouldn't start at all today - which may make tracing the problem easier...

My +8 Bitsa would not start after Winter lay up. Not even a burp. It ran when I parked it. Turns out coil wire loose. Spade connector. No friction to hold connector to the spade. Squeezed it with pliers. +8 started and runs fine. Now to finish bleeding the brakes.

Check the fuel filters to see if there is any sediment, I wouldn't be surprised of it was ignition.
Make sure the distributor hasn't slipped and the ignition timing is spot on.

Parts are so cheap on Xflow that it makes sense to just renew parts.

I had a similar issue in the past, after trying different coil, plugs, plug leads, changing back from electronic to points ignition.... it turned out to be the distributor cap!

Will do. The inline fuel filter is quite new but I was unaware of others in the system, I'm guessing the fuel pump and carb? I'll read-up, although my last experience of taking a Weber apart and putting it back together didn't go smoothly...

I have assembled some new parts and will start at the weekend with the condenser, then points and ballast resistor. If that fails I'll try the ignition coil, distributor cap and HT leads next week.

I'll post the end result in case it helps fellow X-flow owners in the future.

Cheers

Try removing a plug re attach it to the HT lead, earth it and crank the engine to check the spark. You should also be able to smell fuel or see it coming out of the plug hole.

There is a guaze filter in the fuel pump, one phillip's screw on the top to undo and the upper section comes away revealing the filter.
Make sure the rubber sealing ring is in place when refitting, it sits snugly inside the upper pump housing.

Assuming you have the standard Weber carb, looking down on the carb, the float chamber is to the right on the back is a 13mm (approx) brass nut, that holds the carb fuel filter.

I have to say, these filters would have to be badly contaminated to cause your running issue. As you also have an inline filter, I wouldn't look at the carb filter unless necessary.
If the fuel pump filter(first in line) is pretty clear, leave it at that. It's unlikely the sediment gets through the other filters.

I still think it is ignition, as many of us have suggested.

Good luck!

Good news and an easy fix, don't forget to carry a spare as lots of modern ones are "not made like they used to be Lad"
