"Harrier" by Jonathan Glancey,

A fascinating insight into the techno-politics of the 1960s and early 70s.

Two facts I didn't know.

1. As well as the TSR2 Wilsons Boys cancelled the Hawker P1154, this would have has the same performance as the new Fighter thingy being developed in the USA for the UK Navy and RAF.

2. They cancelled the Armstrong Whitworth AW 681, a long range V/STOL transport, rather like the the new A400M atlas, but with 4 Pegasus engines on the wing, so effectively 4 mini Harrier bodies.

And this was all in the 1960s!

Mexborough & Swinton Trolleybuses, by Middleton Press.

A subject dear to my heart, and a big part of my growing up. Contains fabulous archive photos. The roads are deserted................

Middleton do a range of Trolleybuses books from various towns and cities.

"Place-Names in the Landscape" by Margaret Gelling.

The geographical roots of Britain's place names is a fascinating topic - on every journey we go past signs which inform us about the past; this topic also dovetails into my interest in the Anglo Saxon language.

I am reading an intersting newly published book.

" Buying and maintaining a modern traditional Morgan" by a D Wellings.

It's quite absorbing !

The Story of the Blues by Paul Oliver. Slow work as you really need to keep looking up the artists and playing their music to get a full appreciation. Worth it though.

Two on the go at the mo. The Bush by Don Watson. A treatise on the Australian bush, the myth, the reality, the legends and the people. A sometimes harsh (like the bush) appraisal but - in my humble opining - always fair and at times the writing is delightful.

Above the Battle - an Air Observation Post Pilot at War by Ronald Lyell Munro. Predictable that an Auster pilot would home in on this but genuine personal accounts of actually flying the little Rearsby built planes under enemy fire are rare. This is one of only two I have read which really takes you into the dangerous skies between the Normandy landings and VE Day.
