or possibly more than 28 euronorms, given the wide variety of registration plate styles used by member states. In the Netherlands there are many different styles - black on blue for taxies, white on blue for "old-timers", black on white for trailers, black on yellow front and rear for private cars etc. Clearly Brussels has missed a trick, but it is also a lost Brexit opportunity for us to get back our old white on black licence plates taken from us along with our birth right, sovereignty etc. etc. in 1973 when we joined the EEC (which would presumably be made by a Franco-Dutch company because De La Rue wouldn't be competitive).

Before buying my Morgan with legal white on black plates I looked at a 1974 model at Allon White that had old style plates screwed in place over the legal ones, presumably to allow easy removal to pass the MoT.

I guess that plod are lazy just like the rest of is so if you rub their noses in it by using obviously illegal plates then it's an easier catch than say careless driving where it's never black and white. Better to keep a low profile. If you are going to muller the speed limit do it in a car with a quiet exhaust, legal plates and no go faster stripes

Lot more fun in speed than old style plates anyway

Yup. I've banged on about this before, it's just so demeaning and insulting.

I think it is an old person's term to be perfectly honest and dates back to the days when they were just "plodding" on foot and hence the "flatfoot" term also.

In the village I grew up in the village "bobby" had a bicycle. They didn't always have cars and in cities patrolled a beat on foot and plodding made sense then but not for the last 50 years at least soapbox..

It is no longer acceptable, but we have to blame Enid Blyton for it. All of us who grew up in the 1950s will have been "programmed" by the Noddy Books.

from Wiki :
"Mr. Plod is a fictional character in the Noddy children's series by Enid Blyton. He is a forthright police officer who never lets Toyland's crooks escape from the "long arm of the law".
