Garage 56 have contacted me and posted on FB . they will make us carbon fibre front mudguards. if we can get 5 of us to commit to them they do a run of them!
£800 + vat and p&p..... original are £650 + vat Let Chris Horton know if interested. I put my hand up for a pair....

The m3w has a classic old look to it. I don’t see carbon fiber working on it, but of course it all comes down to personal taste.

While I can appreciate the idea, I also have appreciation for the weight that the stock mudguards add to help damp down the dance of the front wheels.

This car is light enough and fast enough for me.

There's been quite a bit of talk over the years of using 18" front wheels as there is more choice of tyres.

A carbon fibre guard and 18" wheel conversion might be of interest to others

You will probably be looking at a spend of around £2k, but will benefit from much improved front end grip

Carbon Fibre compound does not mean it will have a carbon fibre matting look.

It will in all probability look just like the original MMC versions .

These are mega heavy!

So weight loss and wider tyre choice = good idea!!

I'm interested in these mudguards too and have emailed Chris. The large reduction in unstrung weight would be a welcome side benefit but given that I had mine blasted and powder coated about four years ago due to the rampant corrosion and that they are now corroding under the powder coating as well as having had to fix the rear stay on one of them twice this year I like the idea of corrosion free mudguards that are hopefully light enough not to tear themselves apart. I do want them to look reasonably like the originals and would be inclined to paint them to avoid the obvious carbon fibre look.

When removing the front wheels I felt the mudguards were a relatively small amount of the un-sprung mass compared to the wheels and tyres .. might be worth considering lightweight 18" wheels as well ie alloy rims etc if they exist?

This sounds like a good mod. Mine have been stripped after rust lifting off the powder coating and having stripped and re painted them it is happening again! I guess there is some corrosive matter trapped between the tubular stays and the plate work.
Less unsprung weight can only be good.
Could they be talked in to moulding in a nice looking day running light on the top, I wonder?
Even so - out of my current wallet capacity but it's good to know someone is looking at it for future reference.

Ok...not an M3W owner but......the modern version is that...a new take on the originals.
Mudguards do not seem out of place in that circumstance. It is after all not an daft replica. They can be customised to whatever you want....ultra modern or retro.
A Gulf liveried M3W has the looks to fit in with the GT40 era cars so some added tweets to enhance that is fine with me.
The WWII livery......also up for refinement.
