I am constantly baffled by the running temperature of my engine. why does it need the urban cooling kit? They don't need one when installed in a bike. Is skip fire mode something to be relied on in extreme conditions or is it something to be avoided? Recently, on a trip in to the Lake District in hot weather ( at last!) and heavy traffic the engine got quite hot but not hot enough for skip fire to initiate, a plastic bag being carried under the bonnet and touching the oil tank, melted. I have ordered an inline sender and oil temperature gauge to get some figures but what should they be? is this overheating issue to do with the exhaust pipe configuration? they do, after all glow red hot, surely that isn't normal? lots of questions but here is the last one - has anybody got a set of unused factory standard exhaust pipes I could buy to experiment with please? I am thinking of baffle design changes or complete removal, I know some people have done this. I would like to make some changes and log the results for publication.

Not sure I'd have trusted a plastic bag next to the oil tank... I suspect the oil reservoir is meant to be a heat soak.
Anyone else think the tank mount is a bad design? Rubber flanges on an edge against the cylinder of the tank? PS: check the oil pipe under the tank - it was chafing on mine!

Look forward to you solving the next problem. From everything I read our pipes should not be glowing red as that is not a good thing. I recently changed the cams and engine management so concerned I am running lean or my timing is off. Hopefully I will be able to dyno tune mine to optimize how it is running. I also ordered a temperature measuring gun as I am curious if mine is running abnormally hot.

The oil tank on mine surprised me when I touched it once!! Very hot! I have changed my pipes so have standard ones but obviously used...not sure why anybody would have any unused ones to be honest. I have never seen my pipes glowing red hot btw!

I have never seen my pipes glowing red hot btw! Sorry Rob, by unused I meant no longer in use not never used at all! Do you want to sell them? If so how much and where from? My pipes always glow red hot but only visible at night, must look impressive from the front but certainly not good. Thanks for your comments. Phil

Phil I wonder how many of the Morgan’s actually glow orange/red. I never really looked at mine at night until after I changed the tune and cams but I suspect more than a few.

Since I do not agree with the oil temperature either, I have devised my own cooling system. A new Oiltank with more outputs and inputs. An oil pump conveys the hot oil via the cooler. Everything controlled by temperature sensor and display. When I convert the entire system, an additional ball valve is used to shut off the return flow into the crankcase. Greetings from Switzerland Andy

Greetings from Switzerland Andy Nice looking set up Andy, where is the cooler to be sited? I have considered this option too and may go that way when I have some figures from the gauge. Do you not feel that the ball valve is a little dangerous should you forget to open it? Or am I missing something?

Hi yobtaf. This looks interesting, is this a kit or a solution that you have come up with yourself. Either way it looks good. It would be useful to have all the information for future reference, i.e. part numbers and so forth.
John.

@Phil Bleazey The ball valve is placed close to the bonnet. When closed, the bonnet cannot be closed because the lever is in the way.
@rockabilly john The tank is unique. Also important are the plates on the inside, so that the oil cannot leave the outlet in a curve. I can supply a detailed drawing as well as a schematic.
I will create a separate thread for this topic. (If I know how)
