At the recent MOT for the GTN they wanted to fail it on one of the rubber gaiters being split. Was able to get one from the factory plus the factory confirmed that the gaiter in question should not be an mot fail. I think it was something to do with not being a problem for dust or muck to get in there. Wish my memory was better to tell you exactly which one it was!
Anyway, the MOT station took the factory at their word and passed it without the replacement. Fitted the replacement a few days later.

Just an update. Jamie at BHM changed the gaiter for a couple of months back for a modest sum. It was a 40 minute job start to finish. Wish they were all like that! Could have been much worse when the ball joint was split - this could have made the job much bigger...
