So, I've had my first breakdown in my 2017 Morgan 4/4.It started fine this morning, drove it about 20 miles to the supermarket, then it was very reluctant to restart. Took the key out and inserted about four times then it started ok. Drove to my mother's house in Exeter and had coffee and on leaving it point blank refused to start. Turns over superduper but no sign of catching. I'm wondering if there's some sort of electronic immobilser nonsense. Anyway, have had to suffer the ignominy of my mother's Honda Jazz to get me home and it'll be a call to Berrybrook on Tuesday. It's a standard 2017 4/4 if anybody has any brilliant suggestions!

I believe there is a n immobiliser ring in the key lock. If it gets loose you can have those issues.

It is part of the surround of the actual barrel.

There is normally a very small circular part in the plastic section of the key that talks to this transponder, if it has fallen out of the key you will have a small cylindrical hole in it. This is a known fault.

Good Luck.

p.s. Can you hear the fuel pump running on switch on - and do the dash warning lights come on or is it totally dead.

Could be the fuel pump relay if you can't hear it priming.

Can't check right now as the car is in Exeter and I'm in Lapford.I have the day off on Tuesday so will have a go with it then. Dash warning lights definitely all come on, rev counter vibrates as normal then settles. All sounds normal except it doesn't start

Can you hear the fuel pump running briefly when you switch on - if not the relay is a known common failure at any age.

I suspect FTP is "Failure to proceed" - the Rolls-Royce cover-up for a breakdown.
I assume that you have tried resetting the inertia switch?

No, I haven't reset the inertia switch. It seemed to me that it was unlikely to be that as the car almost didn't start at the supermarket, then later it full on refused. I'll have a look at it on Tuesday but it seems immobilser is the most likely culprit. Wonder if it can be removed?
