I helped a mate fill the doors of his XJS once with a 250Watt soldering iron, bars of solder and BICC Coraline Flux the best on the market, it all flowed nicely and was quite easy I enjoyed it.

I repaired a leak in my Scimitar fuel tank the same way once you get it clean enough and use good flux it's easy.

I think the OP just wanted a bit of an idea.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Opinion somewhat divided between replace and repair, it seems. There is a body shop near to me (“former glory’ an MG centre on the A40 near junction 6 of M40 run by one Nigel Guild based for a long time in Acton/Percival area). I’ll let you know how I get on. Cheers, Nick

Hi Nick

I had both front wings and both rear wings off the car back in Dec 17. Shot blasted back to bare metal to remove all the rust, then re-primed, undersealed and re-sprayed. They are perfect! The colour match is superb and they look fantastic. Also had a new radiator core fitted at the same time. Labour costs are quite high because the upper surfaces of the wings need lots and lots of filling to hide the weld joint lines! Cost me £3,500, but what a difference it makes to the car. I can supply photos if required, but notice you are down south and I am up near Harrogate.

Surprised that you had anything left to paint if you had your wings shot blasted! Do you mean grit blasted or media blasted?
