The driving belt in the back make squeaky noises. What can I do to stop it?
Is Silicon or Ceramic Spray a good idea ?
Thanks.

hello player99, the noise comes from the belt rubbing on the side guide plates. Try adjusting the wheel so that it runs centrally. I have seen some cars with the side plate furthest from the wheel removed and they seem to run quietly. if you have the old aluminium rear sprocket ( toothed wheel ) they wear out quickly and can be difficult to keep adjusted - steel sprockets seem to be better. sprays may work temporarily but do not cure the underlying problem.

good luck, Phil

Do you think the belt is to much off the centre? Whenever I accelerate, the belt makes squeaky noises.

Advice is very much appreciated

I only had squeaking from the original aluminium pulley , once this was replaced by a steel one it disappeared.

Belt looks reasonably centered. The true indicator is all of the black powder covering everything. That is aluminum that the belt is chewing through from the sprocket. Once the belt wears through the anodized coating, which is very hard, it then starts to chew through the softer aluminum under it. The squeaky noises come from this interaction and will only get worse.

A good indicator is to take a photo of the sprocket where the belt is not riding towards the front of the car. Look at the sprocket teeth and if they are starting to wear down unevenly then you have found the problem.

The only solution is to replace the sprocket with the new steel sprocket which is now standard for a reason.

The belt itself should last 100,000 miles. I ate 3 aluminum sprockets, went on to the Super Max overly and then moved to the steel sprocket when I killed that. The steel one was not available in the bad old days...

As Michael and HJP say, your sprocket has probably worn through the anodised coat and is now eating the soft aluminium under it. I don't think that any amount of alignment or tension adjustments will fix it. The only cure is either a steel or a Supermax poly remanufactured one.

The original alloy ones can wear out in less than 3000 miles. If you are still in warranty you may have some luck convincing your Morgan dealer that this isn't what is expected of a fairly expensive car these days and get a replacement steel one. Even if you are out of warranty it would be worth a good moan at them and see what sort of conscience they may have. It is a well known fault, you are not the first that has had this happen.

It's just that with time, it gets louder and louder. Women and children hold their ears, babies cry and dogs bark. Then it gets louder than the exhaust!

Hi, Got the belt squeak at 3500 KM. Belt out of alignment tooth wear on wheel pulley. Also a build up of black dust. No noise after realign belt & clean up. As I have an aluminium pulley I have ordered a steel one.
What next!!!!!
