Are you sure? You havent noticed a glowing ring round your head of late?

My guess ( and it is a guess) is that most people in a built up area simply drive at the speed of the other traffic, unaware of whether the limit has changed or not. Certainly I always brake strongly when I see a speed trap, before checking what speed I am doing and trying to work out what speed limit applies. And given a clean licence and a good accident record, I dont think I'm much different ot most drivers.

Lots of common sense there with which I agree. What really annoys me is people who are travelling legally on Motorways who slam on the anchors when they spot a Police car and cause others to brake/avoid/swerve and panic....madness.

And when they do the same on derestricted A roads out in the countryside when they spot a camera...

Too many not paying attention!

What always shocks me is that people literally do not know what the NSL is dependent on type of road. I had someone in the passenger seat telling me to watch out for the speed camera when I was doing bang on the limit, then say, oh, I didn't realise you could go that fast on this type of road...

Must be a better way to test general Highway Code stuff than the theory test at the moment.

I don't just slow down for cameras!
I pass this particular camera virtually every day. The incident was a simple lapse.. after all I am human!
I defy anyone to claim that they are ALWAYS 100% concentrating on their driving. Its impossible to do that as our brains take in so much from the area we are driving through.
A simple comment to a passenger can caus the head to turn....
What irks me are drivers who NEVER seem to concentrate or asses their driving to suit the conditions.
During the recent freeze I was driving slowly due to icy roads but was tailgated . The idiot then decided to pass me on a mini roundabout by crossing it the wrong way. Now that type of driving is what should be picked up and dealt with not rare lapses. This is where discretion by police comes in as opposed to arbitrary camera flashes.
Scenario...... camera outside a school with 20mp limit.... car does 26mph and flashed. Weather - dry,road clear and in good condition....Time of incident... 02.00.
Obviously a dangerous situation that requires a NIP and fine and points as the camera has decided this is a dangerous situation.
Ah! Its 21st century so technology to alter speed limits for time/weather etc is years away!

I think driving standards have dropped over the years.
Mind you, the roads have altered due to huge increase in traffic.
Also roads have become more complex with multi-lane/multi exit roundabouts
mini roundabouts that people just ignore.
Too much road furniture causing brain overload.
Cars bought without indicators or people saving their bulbs....
DVD players in the dashboard of cars...
