It does indeed... The vehicle is only 4 months old Oz, exactly the same cowl rust that I have on my new M3W purchased in October 2017. I've been given the same story about delays for replacement due to retooling. The fact that it will be replaced under warranty is fine...but it begs major questions about quality control. Ah well...

They were definitely stainless but not sure when they changed.
Mine weighs a ton and is non magnetic.
I wonder if it was the tooling prematurely wearing out that triggered the swap to mild steel.
They could have considered brass or copper.

Oz, thanks for asking. Touch wood, fingers crossed, etc., the car has been running really smoothly and we took it out before Christmas on many trips to the Cotswolds when the weather was very cold but beautiful and sunny. The flying jacket, Norwegian leather helmet with fur lining and heated motorbike gloves meant I could drive in comfort notwithstanding the chilly conditions! That’s the good news. The cloud to the silver lining (or, more accurately, the rust to the chromed cowl) is that the front of the car is not looking quite like it should (picture below). The factory have kindly agreed that they will replace the cowl for free but there will be a wait of at least three months as they don’t have any bright work cowls in stock and won’t have for three months as the tooling that is used to produce them is worn and being replaced. ShaunD, I trust this has been sorted now and you are back on the road

Oz, apologies for the delay in responding to this. The cowl did get replaced although the first one sent by the factory did not fit so the dealer had to get another one sent. This one did (although not particularly well). Since then, the car has been performing faultlessly. Actually that doesn’t quite tell the full story. Before going on the Albert Ball Memorial run, I got the dealer to do a nuts and bolts (and fluids) check on the car and, while they had it, it wouldn’t start. It was (of course!) a fuel pump failure so they fitted a new one for me. That means the first one lasted less than 2,000 miles! The car ran really well on the trip to France and, since then, we have just got back from a two week road trip in Northern Spain (we took the ferry to Bilbao) and, again, it ran well. That was more than could be said for the Alfa GT Junior of our friend, who accompanied us, as it broke down less than 20 minutes after disembarking the ferry, blocking a busy road and causing a two mile tailback. It did get fixed later the same day so he was able to continue with us after a four to five hour delay. Have to say, the Spanish police (who spent an hour and a half directing the traffic around his car) and the breakdown people were amazing (and all done with none of them speaking any English and none of us speaking any Spanish!).
