Hi All,

Just a quick on. I've got a stage 1 ECU to drop in from the guys at Garage 56.

I had a quick look last night and it looks like the top bolt is pretty well obscured by the relay tray. has anyone got any tips for getting it out? i.e. what you took out to get decent access.

I'm going to put it back in by using Velcro :-)

All the best

Garage 56 imply you do not need take anything out, you just need a 3/16 ball end hex key

"At Garage 56 we mount our ECU's with Velcro. It's a pretty standard thing in motorsport: it helps isolate the ECU from some of the vibration in the chassis.
We can't guarantee it'll prevent an ECU failure, but it's such a cheap tweak, why not?
We find a 3/16 ball-end hex key (Allen key) works in the top bolt holding the ECU on. Don't know what we're talking about?... all will become apparent when you try to remove the ECU!"

I've Swapped it out and the new item is installed.
Thanks for the ball ended Allen key tip! It made the world of difference and I now have a new set of tools in the garage :-)

Excuse my ignorance but what's the significance of the ball end vs a normal allen key?

A ball end allen key allows you to access the socket head screw from an angle, as opposed to in line with a conventional allen key. In this instance there is stuff in the way which means you cant get direct access to the socket head screw.

It lets you get in to undo the top hex drive bolt. its in behind a relay tray and its difficult to get at with a standard Allen key. I expect someone less ham fisted than me could get it our with a flat end...
