Stupid Question from Newbie....
I want to polish the chassis rails (3 yr old Plus 4)and to do that take them out to protect carpets etc.
How are they fixed in - don't want to force them off and damage - cant see any screws etc???
Thanks.

They are a press fit. Lift the transmission tunnel cover so you don't scratch it and the stainless cover will prise upwards.

Mine were stuck fast until something seemed to cause them to come loose and began to rattle so much so that I had to refit them using some, yes you’ve guessed it neoprene to wedge them back
I think, as silly as it sounds, it was the change in temperature that may have loosened them as it happened in late March
Or it could be driving over the potholes !!

On my 2003 4/4 the rails are carpeted. Is this feature on anyone else’s car; or is it another oddity of Stanley?

Quite normal, even current cars are supplied from the factory with two carpet offcuts & the dealer then fits if the customer wants them covered I think they are not covered by the factory so the chassis number is not concealed

They must have changed the way they do things as mine was a £10 extra for the rail carpet when it was ordered back in May 1999.
I had the stainless one's fitted on my Sport back in 2009 and they were a pain they kept getting scuffed badly, so I'm pleased the previous owner of my Plus 8 had carpet fitted.
