Is this because you don’t drive the car when you’re not touring or do you believe there is nothing to be gained by having the light when not on a tour?

We did almost 4k last year. 60% of this driving in Europe. SWMBO insists on taking almost the entire contents of her wardrobe. This requires an enormous suitcase! To clear this, we need the high level brake light shown.

Back in the UK, I prefer the cleaner look of no luggage rack and revert back to the original factory setup.

Inspired by Docok's posting of Resolution's high brake light I came up with my MK2 version:

In the lowered position

In the raised position so it's visible over the suitcase

I think this looks better than my previous effort which had the steel plate, it also means that I can just slide it down (rather than undoing four fiddly nuts and bolts then replacing two of them) when no case is on the rack and still have a high level light.
I know it needs a bit of fine tuning to level it which I'll do when I replace the bolts with four of the same size.

That's a very neat solution! One suggestion would be to replace one of the lower bolts with a quick release cam bolt, to give you tool-less adjustability of the light when mounting or dismounting a suitcase. A bicycle seat-tube bolt might be a bit large, but you may be able to find a smaller one...

something like this, perhaps? https://www.kipp.com/gb/en/Products/Oper...less-steel.html

Good suggestion Oakvillian. At the moment I’ve lined the bottom bracket with self adhesive felt, this allows the tube to slide down without the need of tools. Time will tell if this remains tight enough, if it loosens I’ll certainly look at the cam bolt.
