I have 2016 M3W, bought October 2017. I am the second owner. Almost immediately i noticed small drops of oil appear on the garage floor after i go for a drive. Dealer assured me its not a big deal. The source of the oil is a big hole in the transmission housing. I have pictures that show the source. Dealer told me its transmission oil vapors that settle on the bottom of the housing and slowly drip when i park. Anyone else? I would say 2-5 drops are on the floor the next day. is this fixable? warranty? any help would be be appreciated.

Hi Paul

I have a 2013 M3W and it doesn't drip any oil from the transmission after a drive.

Any loss of fluids is a pain as you need to clear it up and also figure out what rate you are losing the oil and therefore how often you need to top it up.

If it is still covered by warranty I would get it fixed. Oil leaks do not get better over time.

Sounds like BS. "Oil vapors" LOL!

It should not drip oil, unless of course there is a leak.

Also sounds like BS to me. The "big hole" in the transmission I assume is the round hole in the bellhousing? If this is so it is either a leak from the Mazda gearbox, unlikely as that is about the only bit of the M3W that doesn't seem to cause any problems, or from the S&S engine? I would go with a leak from the S&S engine side of things. You could have a sniff of the oil to confirm this but you will need to be aware of the smell of engine oil compared to the smell of transmission oil. They are quite distinct. The only other possible source is from the hydraulic clutch release and that will mean that the master cylinder reservoir level will be dropping noticeably.

Yes the hole in the bellhousing. I have been back and forth with the dealer and his most recent solution is to find a way to cover the hole. I agree that the transmission should not be the problem, but i dont know? I havent seen the level drop, but i will mark it today to make sure. Will smell it as well.

Any possible ways to deal with the dealer?
He is about an hour away, so far i have been there about 4 times and it was not worth leaving the car there.

Let’s start by naming and shaming your dealer.
His proposal to cover the hole demonstrates utter incompetence and a desire to fob you off

I'm not sure what the MMC warranty period is for an M3W, but if it's 2 years hopefully the car is still covered.

Failing that as you pointed out to the dealer (hopefully backed up in print/email) that the car was dropping oil from day one - he really will have to face up to the fact then that it is a warranty claim. If he fails to react send him an email copied to the factory M3W man stating the facts and time frame.

Very shoddy advise from your dealer I'm afraid to say - perhaps he needs his hole blocking up as he clearly is leaking BS ?

Good Luck.
