Hi everyone,

I am going to expose my lack of knowledge here, but if you don't ask questions, you will not learn. Right?

My car, +8 -98, i equipped with a luggage rack.

Now. The top bar can swing open. What is the purpose of that?
I do not get it. Is it for storage of the side screens in some way?

Best regards from Sweden

Hi Bjorn you are spot on with the explanation, it is impossible to get them in there otherwise.
The reason most of us are on here is to learn from others so no question is unnecessary and no one will make you feel embarrassed.

It is for the sidescreens & they should fit in there.

A side screen bag (cover) should be used to avoid sctatching!
I assume Bjorn got none with his car.

The rack in the photo seems to be the same as mine. The later racks are a little wider and have a sort of hook protruding from the bottom centre to stop the sidescreens sliding down.

Mine works OK and was provided by the factory when I bought the car but I think it was really sized for the short door cars. My sidescreens, in their bag, do go in but they have to sit at a strange angle which means that the emboidered logo doesn't sit straight.

I have always been a bit cross with MMC over this because the long door cars had been in production for quite a while when I bought my car and this sort of thing indicates, unfortunately, lack of attention to detail mad2 swear

Thanks for the info.

Does anyone have a picture on how it looks when the screens are in the rack?

Hi Bjorn, this was the side screen rack (£240 - 88) fitted at the factory in 1999 on my car which is of course a long door like yours. I don't have a picture of the screen bag on the rack as they live in the garage all the time with the roof.

The lower section shallow "U" is where the black rexine covered part of the screens fit through, the top of the screens are on the top line of the rack. So in a sense the rack is handed, they only fit in one way this may not be the case with yours from what I can see.

Bjorn,
I went out to the garage & took these.
I hope it makes sense now
