Dave, to be fair to MMC:
I would not expect BMW or Mercedes to react much different when an 8 year old car shows a splitting somewhere on the outside.

I wonder how many car manufacturers would be prepared to fix a problem when the car has been out of warranty for 7 years. Whilst it must be frustrating to have this problem, I fully understand why MMC are not over interested.

... but we have quite a few ex and present factory moles on here that will doubtless attempt to justify it on the basis that it is hand built... Wow..!! Yes Wow. What a strange comment which being ex factory I rather resent. The panel is welded there, probably a poor weld. I’ve not seen anyone else post about a similar problem in all my years on TM so I guess not a common fault. But then it is hand built

Wait a minute......., I’m sure the OP tells us that Morgan has paid for the repairs, all he’s not pleased about is that they haven’t explained the cause. If this is the case, I think the OP is being less than fair towards Morgan, I would expect to pay for the repairs myself on an eight year old car. Since he’s not going to buy another Morgan, I wish him good luck with all the other brands, Id recommend KIA next time, seven year warranty might just be enough. Suggest you read it again! He didn’t actually say that Morgan paid for the repair. He implied that their response was so defensive, as if he wanted them to pay whereas all he really wanted was an explanation. And he didn’t even get that.! My experience also of the factory. They’ve got your money and thereafter, they usually don’t wanna know! My take exactly....

Just to balence opinion: I recently found on my 2012 plus 8 a cracked gearbox mounting. I reported it to MMC and although i would say the initial response was slow, they provided me with a replacement part and offered to fit it. Interesting...

Yes very interesting, I'll bet there isn't a recall out about it ..

(TM thread Morgan Three Wheeler » M3W clutch failure & high vibration)
One month out of warranty - 3,200Ks on the clock and the car virtually falls apart. Morgan take 8 weeks to say NO to warranty. Luckily he did get some help from the local dealer but MMC don't do them selves any favours on reputation and customer support.

There are legal liabilities beyond any 12 month manufacturer guarantee, but most of us never contemplate going down that route even if we know about it. Particualrly the case where safety is involved or where defects that couldnt be obvious to an inspection

Who remembers the saga of the early M3W cars and a particular buyer who made consistent and detailed posts in TM re his safety concerns on bump steer and other design problems etc..? In my opinion the M3W has been a success for Morgan commercially DESPITE a clear lack of development pre sale. Either a basic lack of the development process or a rush to launch resulting in reduced development. Considering the actual upgrades ( at a puzzling mix of customer cost or MMC cost (why?)) that took place, many clearly safety based, MMC has not covered itself in glory. We, as Morgan fans, are often our own worst enemies and accept the “they all do that, sir” attitude. Personally, I love my car but do get frustrated and amazed at what I consider lack of thought/poor design/penny pinching evident when getting down and dirty maintaining the car. Is there a mentallity of “we have always done it like that so why change”? Ah well.....off to the garage to look at the car and smile...
