Hi,

After 7 years for faithful service, my battery is now starting to fail so I need to replace it.

Can anyone tell me the specification and make a recommendation of make and model?

FYI I've got a 2.5 curated engine, which has started fine on the standard battery, but any suggestions on a battery with extra cranking power would be appreciated.

Roger,
be careful if you have the battery tray in the back behind the seats. The tray has no floor so you need a battery of those dimensions or make up a floor for the tray.
The AA fitted a type 075 to my Roadster last week.

Why not as Uncle Melvyn (Melvin Rutters) or another dealer to quote so you get the spec.
Some people fit Odssey batteries. I have always gone for standard gel batteries & used a CTEK charger to ensure long life.

I think that your 2.5 will need a bit more welly from a battery compared to a standard Plus 4 so I’d go down a larger Odssey route. I’m sure the battery tray for the Roadster is the same ( I may be wrong!) as the Plus 4 and they take a higher capacity battery, so perhaps try that.

Don't forget cranking power (CCA in Amps) and capacity (in Amp-hours) are not the same thing.

Unless you need a high reserve of capacity for "hotel" or "off-key" applications (unlikely in these days of efficient circuitry), go for CCA.

(I have spent, or wasted, over 40 years in the battery industry attempting to educate my colleagues in Sales and Marketing about the difference between power and energy..........)

Unlike some, I wouldn’t have the temerity to contradict Jays. However, if you search for DaveW’s post on Banner Batteries you’ll find the specification of the one he fitted to his Roadster.

DaveW confirms Jays assertion that the tray for the Roadster is the same size as the Plus 4.

Bit of a thread drift, but what are the thoughts on thermally insulating your battery..? It's simply hung down in a cradle, I wondered if it would be good or bad to rig up some sides..?

Struggling to see any advantage of doing so, Steve?

Thanks for all the advise!

I went to Dave W's post which was most helpful and agree with him that most of the websites are pretty useless and even the Banner site appears to directs you to the wrong battery!

I've eventually gone for a Banner PowerBull 60 09, which is the correct size and has a CCA of 540. It definitely turns the engine over quicker!

Cost 75.99 incl. VAT.
