If you don't have any speed cameras near you, go one step further and get a black and silver sticker to pop on your wing (improves drag coefficient too - not suggesting that Morgans are with a slab of glass in front of you) reason I say this is because its illegal to have it on a curved surface, but still looks good!!

DaveW's link has the answer - "PO" was West Sussex (Chichester) until 1974 and then Portsmouth up till 2001. Now Preston, apparently. A useful document, thanks for posting.

I have a very old and well used copy of Where's It From, When Was It Issued by Noel Woodall, which gives the date of issue of all letter combinations from 1903. Particularly useful for pre '63 registrations.

Thanks, Dave - brilliant. I'd been looking for old AA books (used to be found in every church/village fete book stall - now never seen!) after drawing a blank online.

Hi, i have a front wing mounted plate with a black/white rear plate and although i have only driven a 1,000 miles since owning her i have had no police interaction (+8 with private number as shown in the photos section). As far as i know the car has been like this for years with no problems what so ever - the average bobby must assume the old girl is vintage and not a sprightly 18 year old!!!!!

I was filling up with petrol in Slough recently and a large Police van followed me in to the station. The Officer said I've followed you for two reasons, one because you have an illegal number plate. I apologised and said the legal one was in the boot, he said get it fitted please. cop

He said the second reason is that this is the first Aero SuperSports I have seen on the road. I offered him a drive up the road in it, but he declined saying he was a bit pushed for time - another time maybe.

Trust me to get a Bib who knows its a new car, but in mitigation he was a petrolhead (A member of PH too) who did not give me a ticket! grin2

Note to self: must fit the legal plate in case I bump into him again. nono

It was just a friendly chat so never got round to being asked to show a driving licence. In any case, whilst your suggestion used to work when asked to produce a licence they now check with the DVLA to see if you also have a British licence. cop

Saw two very "impressive" numbers yesterday, coincidentally while out in my 4/4. K 1 and 1 M - both on large new cars, both silver on black. Presumably this is illegal, and presumably they will get away with it for 3 years until the first MOT. And there I was with my non-age related plate, in legal colours.
