I saw a photo of one of the Morgan SLRs which didn’t have them fitted.

I've had exactly the same experience on my 4/4.

With hindsight I don't think they are that necessary on the 4/4 with 165 tyres because the maximum braking force is probably not enough to twist the crosshead.

On cars with bigger brakes and wider tyres the stays probably do make a difference but I'm doubtful on the 4/4.

I noticed the reduced lock and have been deciding whether to put up with it but yesterday while I was fitting some braided brake hoses I noticed the tyres have been rubbing heavily on the stays so I think they will have to come off.

I don't know why they would rub on the 4/4 and not other models or maybe people are just putting up with it.

Has anyone ever had an MOT problem because of the rubbing.

Had them on the +4 and now the Roadster. My impression is they help but it could be just me. Never had the rub issue.

I can in some situations like braking hard downhi, hat something in front is bending. My 2001 4/4 has the «rub» blocks installed on the chassis. But the front wheels never touch them. I have seen roler installed on older Morgans.

Went around the track at Le Mans on Friday and was braking heavily at times car seemed fine without them

Agree, most can be happy without.

I have them fitted to my 4/4 .The car is fitted with two litre 185 bhp zetec.They have definitely made a difference.
Had no problem with rubbing.
But I do drive spirited!

Fitted properly (with a little bit of fettling) there is no issue with rubbing on the tyre.

When I fitted them to my car and another TM members car, I took care to ensure they didn't rub as I felt it would be stretching the MoT exemption too far if the tyre rubbed on stays rather than the block.

Regarding loading on the chassis, my feeling is that the stay will deform before the chassis does.

I've also seen the SLR without them fitted and I was told why they weren't fitted but I'm blowed if I can remember

Because the FIA got all funny about the SLRs a couple of years back and made them remove anything that could be considered a chassis stiffener

I bought Mulfab stays from Cain and had them fitted by New Elms while I was down there so I'd like to think they were fitted correctly.

But they do rub quite badly on the tyres.

Don't know how else they could be fitted to avoid the rubbing but any advice gratefully accepted.
