Hi I bought a Roadster a couple of months, new Morgan owner, and keen to know the exact engine that it has. It was first reg in Oct 2006 so a first series I guess, does that mean it would have the Mondeo ST 220 engine 223 bhp ?

Welcome to the fun. Yes it should be the ST220.

Hi Andy and welcome.
I have the same model albeit a 2007 model. Brilliant car, lovely engine and gearbox.
I fitted a a pair of stainless steel sports silencers from Melvin Rutter not long after buying it and it sounds even better now, not too loud just a lovely burble at tick-over and the right amount of noise when accelerating.
This is a great forum for help and advice. I don't post very often but read it regularly.

In many ways the Series 1 Roadster is considered to be the pick of the bunch, as others here will no doubt testify.
The more powerful ST220 engine , the Getrag gearbox with appropriate rear axle ratio make for a great drive train.
As you will discover from others the main two watch points are; the very low sump which is vulnerable over speed bumps etc, and the propensity for the axle to tramp under spirited take offs. There are fixes for both, but meanwhile enjoy your new pride and joy.

One other point to watch for.
Is the air filter box fitted with a mesh guard to stop a foreign body in the airways entering the oily parts of the engine?
Mine had no filter and a loose bolt took a long time to cause damage - and then cost me thousands to fix!

I have a K&N filter in my filter box - nothing bigger that a gnat's thingy could get in the engine.

Hi yes I love it , i wanted this one with the ST220 engine . My friend has one but his sounds a lot more ‘ grunty’ , if you know what I mean. His is a 2004 series 1. Would it be the exhaust system the that would give that noise ?
Do you know what I could look out for on the engine itself to be conclusive of which one it is ?
