I just returned from holiday and enjoyed a quick spin in the car this evening. I put the car away in the garage and an hour later I noticed the interior lights under the footwell were still on and remained on what ever i tried. Eventually I just took the fuse out to avoid a flat battery. Any clues as to what I can do next please.

Have a look at the push switches in the A post edge of the doors, first..?

I would suspect the switches or a worn wire.
Is it still under warranty?

Many thanks for the advise, I've pulled out both push switches and not exactly sure what I'm looking for. My only observation is that on the passenger side switch only one small wire was connected to the back of the switch whereas on the drivers side there was two.

That’s probably because the action of the switches is merely to complete a circuit to earth via the switch body, to enable current to flow through the light. The fact that two are on one side is that one of those wires will be the main incoming one from the light and the other will be a loop to the passenger side switch.
A methodical approach: Suggest you first disconnect the wire from the passenger switch and if light goes out, it’s that switch that is faulty. If not take both wires off drivers side. If light goes out, it is that switch faulty. If light still stays on, then there is likely to be a pinched wire somewhere between the light and the drivers door switch or between driver door switch and passenger door switch. If you can identify the wire that loops to passenger side by colour, you could reconnect that one and if light comes back on, it’s a fault on that wire. If not, it’s on the wire back towards the light. Hope that helps.

did you have both switches out at the same time?
If you did and the lights stayed on then it means the fault is in the wiring somewhere as the switches weren't earthed. Logically they earth via the switch with one wire.

If you only have the switch with one wire on out & lights went off then it could be that switch.

Thank you both for your input and adopting your approach there must be a fault in the wiring somewhere as as I've pulled out wires for both switches individually and collectively and the lights stay on!

Just another thought. I have never looked at the footwell light on a GDI, but don’t suppose it has a manual switch to over ride the door switches like tin tops have, and it’s been accidentally knocked to the constantly on position??

Thanks for that thought and that would be embarrassing. However no such luck as I can't trace an override switch anywhere. Looks like the garage will have to trace the fault.
