This year managed to do NW England to Le Mans 24h + Classic .... 2 good runs with no roof on both occasions carrying a tent & sleeping bag and gear.
From the tunnel its 4 hours and Zeebrugge its 6 hours ...not the longest journey in the world.

But a good start. Well done.
We did 3300 miles to Sorrento & back this year the longest so far. Once the touring bug hits it hits! Can highly recommend the Austrian Swiss & Italian Alpine passes.

After visiting LMC noticed in the memorabilia stalls, there seemed to be a lot of fetishisation with Steve McQueen (or appropriately SM - his image was all over the place).

Never seen the film Le Mans so thought it was about time I watched it.

One wierd thing that really irritated me about the Le Mans film was the number of Gendarme used in the crowd scenes.

The director must have thought, right - we are in France - what do we need - Gendarmes in all the crowd scenes (approx 1 in 10 of spectators. Every time a scene came on I found myself counting the fricking gend......

Anyway just a personal irritant. Watch it and you will see what I mean.

Now I am watching a documentary on the making of Le Mans - wonder if it will mention the number of....

Footnote - it is possible I could be wrong and there were thousands of french police at Le Mans in 1970 - think there were riots in 68.

I watched the film again for the first time since I saw it as a kid , and have to say after all the hype I was rather underwhelmed , and likewise surprised at number of stalls almost totally dedicated to it or Steve McQueen . The reality of the 24hr history is far more interesting for me.
