We went along to the Breakfast Club for the first time today. It was a bit chilly driving through the mist to Midhurst, but by the time we approached the circuit it was warming up in brilliant sunshine.

We ended up in the paddock behind the grid and enjoyed a really good breakfast in the Jackie Stewart pavilion. Then we wandered round the paddock and along the course looking at a lot of Austin Healeys, and Triumphs, almost as many E-types and a few Mercedes, one of which my wife wanted to take home, with or without me, I thought.

The grid was mostly reserved for Aston Martins and Hackett had brought along a few new ones as well, but there was a paucity of Morgans. Counting our own I don’t think that there were more than half a dozen. Does this reflect relative production numbers, or was there something better going on? In any event, we had a very enjoyable morning, although it may turn out expensive - my wife wants to go flying from the aerodrome!

The Bentley Drivers Club meeting at Silverstone was a big draw yesterday. There were about 50 Morgans competing and well over twice that spectating.

There was also the BHM Breakfast meeting that might have taken a few owners eastwards ?

I was there too. Yes, it was quite a foggy start, I drove via Harting and it was clear over The Downs. My mate left before me in his 2CV but I managed to overtake him at Lavant and arrived just as the gates opened at 7.00am to nab first place on the circuit!

I saw yours and a couple of others in the paddocks, including Barrie with his Laurence Tune +4, and a handful of others around the track. I think roughly the normal proportion of Morgans.

The surprise to me was the number of Dino's, I think I counted eight, all bar one the GTS version. A genuine Bugatti too and a couple of Gordon-Keebles.

Often the August BC can be quiet but this morning was one of the busiest I've attended.

We arrived at the gate at the side of the track (having followed the signs coming down from the race course) but were then redirected to the main gate because there were no Marshalls available. If we’d been 5 mins later we’d have been parked up together. We saw you arrive from the pit lane.

I hadn’t realised that Morgan’s have a scarcity value denied to Ferraris, DBs and E-types.

What we couldn’t figure out was the economics of the event. Whilst the breakfast was not cheap the profit margin can’t have been so high. Is the event run entirely by volunteers?

Goodwood is only allowed 5 non-silent Sundays annually so they started the Breakfast Clubs to make use of the circuit the rest of the year. I can't think they get much out of it beyond the publicity.

I've only once bought the breakfast. Bacon and egg roll and cup of tea at the NAAFI van is now a firm tradition!

Thanks for the info about the noise management.

Re breakfast I offered my wife the NAAFI option but she declined!
