Just curious if anyone threaded their shifter rod. My shifter rod/knob is not threaded and has some funny little adapter. I have looked around but very limited options for shifter knobs without threads. If I can thread the rod to a miata thread pattern 10-1.25 there is a lot of awesome options (i.e., voodoo) knobs that might be a little closer to matching the emergency brake knob as well.

What looks like a challenge off the bat is that the shifter rod diameter is about 10.9MM so I suspect to thread to 10mm the shifter rod needs to be turned down and then threaded.

Appreciate any thoughts.

Ken

Interesting. My late 2012 machine has a threaded shifter. It might be just as easier to source a new or used Miata shifter?

Might be a winter project and buy a Miata short shifter kit. I know some of the Miata guys rave about the short shifter and certain guys will even custom bend it for you.

I bought a “touring” knob from the Morgan’s website. It’s a nice polished-aluminum knob. Then I used my buffing wheel and removed the anodizing from the e-brake knob - looks really cool and matches the shifter.

Thanks Kankel that is a ry ce option. I gave up looking and as a former multiple miata guy I broke down as I could no longer live without a voodoo knob on the miata trans. The good news is I found the guy that custom engraved the voodoo knobs Joe and I am putting the morgan logo on it. The knob is threaded so will spend the bucks on a short shifter. Another miata special as the guy is willing to make a custom length and bend short throw shifter. .

Spendy but only money.

Thinking of adding 1-2 inches to the shifter so the shifter clears everything a bit better.

Which guys? I recently posted a thread about my desire to reduce the length of my gear shifter on my 2016 Roadster as I find it sits too high and would benefit from being about an inch shorter, even though I understand this will make the throw a bit stiffer.
However, in doing so I will have to have the shaft re threaded.

Miata roadster is willing to do a custom bend and length. By the way if you buy the short throw you can get away with a longer shaft.

2Sharp, would you be willing to share the person doing the voodoo shift knob? I'd go for one myself. Aluminum? Delrin? Brass? Brass I think could be neat with the weight of it.

I would email joe directly. If you want a picture i can send you my new knob. Joe engraved the morgan logo on mine but in the past he has done the shift pattern for me. Voodoo knobs are awesome.

I'm considering a knob with a 7 speed shift pattern engraved.
