The weird knocking from the OSR suspension has been tracked down to this

Bloody roads! mad
(Although hubby thinks it's my driving!)

Is replacing the mounting bar as easy as it look (ha-ha). 8 bolts to the chassis, and two for the handbrake adjuster?

I've already done the rear dampers in the past so know my way around a spanner or two :-)

Thanks in advance!

I suspect it is a fatigue crack.
Not good though.
An opportunity to dump the springs and go to multi link rear suspension?

Make sure you get one with mounting points in the same place as your original one, mine were found to be different and my shocks topped out.

I don’t have the savings for the multi link, worse luck.
There is a light coat of corrosion JohnV6, but the break is clean and so it’s fairly recently happened.
Thanks for the advice on the mounts though.

This happened recently to another TMer, Lord Unstone. He had his welded back into position with no problems, I don't think they even needed to take the hoop out of the car.

And maybe they could also weld on some strengthening plates on each bend of the hoop.

What are your rear shocks adjusted to? Do they have bump stops?

If too hard and no bump stops the shock absorber is transmitting the forces from the road springs directly onto that mounting, and this might have contributed to the failure. However I do suspect Peter is correct and that it is a fatigue failure.

I have personally broken the bottom mounting plate, but never seen the top on ego like that, although with you and Richard both having a failure there it is obviously another weaker point.

I have done two bottom mounting plates. The last of S Italian motorways. I was told in 2006 the factory had a dodgy batch.
