Thinking of replacing the air bag steering wheel with a Moto Lita would appreciate all suggestions,
What size diameter 14 or 15"
Standard or larger thickness
Light or darker colour
Mk3 or other
So many choices?
Looking forward to your suggestions.

Are you sure you can do that and still remain compliant?

That same switch was planned here but in the end the dealer said no on a compliance basis - but hey, that was in Australia.

The dealer has to watch his back , legally. Too many no win no fee lawyers around. But doing it yourself? I wouldnt see a problem except the technical wiring one.

Well you remove a safety device but you are an adult so can make your own risk assessment.

As I understand it the cartridge that fires the air bag can explode if you get it wrong during removal so I would be getting technical help on that if I were you.

Definitely, all modifications need to de declared or they'll use it as an excuse to decline paying out if you have an accident

Regardless of the rights or wrongs of doing it, this is the Moto-Lita wheel on my 1999 4/4.

I changed it recently from the original thin rim light colour (faded into the bargain) and it made a huge difference to the look of the whole dash area.

Spec,

MK 3
15" flat spoke with holes.
Thick rim, I had my doubts about this but it is very comfortable and seems to increase the grip-ability.
Dark finish, stands out well against the slightly lighter walnut dash.

I think your dash layout might be similar so this should give you some idea of what it will look like.

Apologies for the poor photo as it was taken in the garage under fluorescent lights.

Thanks Ivor for the photo, this is exactly the look I'm after.

As per the Insurance issue, a fellow Morgan owner called his insurance company about replacing his wheel and their response was 'no problem'.

There's an article in Gomog covering the removal of a air bag wheel.

Still looking for everyone's thoughts on 14" vs 15" wheels and wheel thickness.

I've got a Moto-Lita mark 9 14" wheel, had it for 15 years or more, I get on fine with it and wouldn't swap it - although it does need a rub down and revarnishing, it's getting a bit tatty.
