800 volts dc? I don't think I'd like to get in the way of that, you'd be stuck to it wouldn't you? Nick AC throws. DC grabs. I got a belt from the 750 DC third rail traction current once. Not a great deal of fun. How did you get off it?

Clearly the scientifically 'correct' answer would be to remove all VED tax and instead load it onto fuel tax, so that the more fuel you burn (and therefore the more CO2 you produce) the more you pay..... and would also save all the costs of collecting VED in the first place. This is all i have been saying for the last 20-30 years, but as said, for some reason the "ruling class" cannot see the logic nor the sense. The second argument is, should we transfer 3rd party insurance onto the fuel duty so that all the crims do at least cough up some tax when they run cars without tax and ins? [/quote. This is an old Chestnut, but a valid one. Yes it's been around for as long as I can remember as an alternative but I think most of us would agree it's a good one. Say fuel went up 40p a gallon, would the SUN, the paper that "Stands Up" for the working man say. 1 No change, VED no longer has to be paid as petrol is up 40p a gallon. 2 Those politicians are screwing the working man out of 40 p a gallon and white van man is being crucified. Which assumption would the politicians assume.

I'm a little embarrassed to admit I didn't know The Sun was still in existence, but yes no doubt about where the lily livered politicians would stand - my word that would mean a decision and responsibility..

I think there already is an issue for fire crews attending electrical vehicle crashes.
From what I read the battery packs tend to catch fire in a crash as the cooling stops. Pouring water on an electrical fire will have interesting consequences.... Isnt lithium in the same group of metals as magnesium, in which case it will flare when hot enough.

It's a bit late to be doing this now. The probability is that ved will go the other way as revenue for oil decreases as it switches to electric power. The revenue has to come from some source.

I worked for National grid before retirement The majority of EHV circuits were 400kV. You never touched any lines, it touched you first, the arcing distance in dry air was about a metre!

I worked with high power LF transmitters and aerial coil systems and at 275kV in dry air you were down to around an 1" before it bit you and punched a hole in the sole of your boot as it found the copper earth screening loops. It always took a long time to heal due to the surface damage, the worst bit was your leaky boots.

Morgan should look backwards before looking forwards.
Take Peter Morgans PlusFourPlus as a failure to move forwards. The Aero 8 hasn't been a runaway success either.
Take Caterham's 21 in the mind '90s for a failure. Then their failure to work with Renault on the Alpine. Apparently Renault will make no money from this car and its extruded aluminium body, beautiful though it is.
The Chinese took the tooling for the UK's best selling convertible, the TF, and killed its sales stone dead, despite improving the engine and piling on the kit.
They should look to Lotus, who made the Elise work where they couldn't make the M100 Elan work. They lost the K-series engine so then stuck in a British built Toyota unit with great success.
The Elise will become its main rival if Morgan are going bonded aluminium extrusions. Currently nothing compares to the Trad range. This unique luxury will cease when it uses more mainstream tech and stronger pricing. You are getting into Porsche territory and the comparisons won't be favourable.
Compare the tech you currently get in an Elise to the tech you're getting in a currently 4/4 and then ask yourself why the under '50s don't buy the Trad range. I asked this question a couple of years ago on this forum. None of my car made mates would ever consider a Morgan, but the Lotus Elise and M100 Elan have been bought by my circle of friends, as well as various Porsches.
