Always has ran well no issues. 2 weeks ago was driving and car started to shudder at 50 miles per hour, felt like no gas, toddle had no effect, car stalled, would start but not drive. i rebuild the fuel pump. this morning out to test after 8/10miles same thing, car stalled would restart but no gas peddle response. idled rough would bounce from 500 rpm to 1500. than it was ok to drive home. looking for suggestions and HELP!
thanks
Ed

Points or electronic distributor??

If points, check rotor and condenser.

If electronic, revert to points if possible.

Just a thought, could it be the base plate of pre-famulated amulite surmounted coil.

If that doesn’t work I would check the malleable logarithmic casing and check out the two spurving bearings are in a direct line with the panametric fan ?

Fuel filter sounds more like the issue though

If it's points check they are not loseing their gap when the engine is warm, gave me nightmares on my old TR +4.

.+8 Now gone for a 1800 4/4. Duratec in bright yellow.

My first thought too.

Mind you if the car has original or old fuel pipes and is running modern petrol, the pipes could have collapse with the alcohol.

Muck or water in the fuel could be the problem. In theory the filter in the fuel pump should prevent debris getting to the carbs, but fine particles still get through. Suggest you take the tops off the flat chambers (assuming you have SU carbs), mop out the contents of the float bowls with an absorbent cloth and see if there's any crud in the bottom. It's worth toggling the lever on the fuel pump at this stage to check fuel flow. The fuel pumps have non-return valves in them. I had an instance of these failing intermittently so the fuel feed to the carbs was erratic. It was hellish frustrating until diagnosed.

In some of the pumps these valves are secured with a screwed in plate; in other pumps they are fitted and the pump casing is peened over so the valves cannot be replaced. Were yours the replaceable type?

Other than that it's electrical, but it's odd that the engine revs fluctuate. But you could check the points gap, fit a new condenser maybe and fit a new coil. The problem with the coils on TR engines is that they bolt to the engine block, so they get very hot and can fail prematurely. This happened to me. I now mount the coil on the inner wing.

Please let us know how you get on.

Tony
