So after 14 months of hard labour and 23k miles in the morgan, I have managed to obtain the services of an elderly subaru for my winter commuting. So my trusty steed is going to be a bit of a garage queen for the winter and wet days there on in. Now I have just put a new battery on, so should I invest in a trickle charger to keep things in tip top shape or will a new battery be ok if I am able to take the car out for a spin say once a week?

With a new battery and a decent run once a week I'd have thought you'd be ok Sawman, longer than that and I'd definitely recommend a conditioner.

I have a conditioner for my various vehicles.
Always handy to have in case you don't manage to carry out that weekly run...
Worth looking up (or Googling) the "ctek xs3600". Prices vary, can't remember where I bought mine from now...

I use the same as Graham and have wired in a connection plug so I can attach it easily. The lead is of course fitted with a fuse.

There are several adaptors and ways of fitting this.
On a side note we've just sorted a trade agreement with Hamilton Classics for these.

I have a switch to cut off the battery and my old Morgan starts easily after three months standing. The wife's classic Mini has a trickle charger which is very comfortable and I have big automatic chargers (8-12 amps) which are able to charge a flat battery. The smaller Cteks are not strong enough for this.

I work month on/month off away from home, for the month I'm away I always have my battery on a conditioner and it's always ready to go when I get back.
