The surly flic asked what was the year of manufacture and when I replied 2015 he said that in that case it did not qualify as a ”voiture de collection” and therefore the silver-on-black number plates were not legal. I gave him my best puzzled stare and said that I did not know the definition of that expression.

Surly flic then went to consult my case with his colleagues, including a young one who was tapping stuff into a laptop. For a couple of minutes, resigned to having to change to boring modern plates (I have a pair ready) I was wondering how much the fine would be. Then the surly flic handed me back my papers, said that everything was in order and that I was free to move on. He even stood in the middle the road and stopped the traffic to let me out. Evidently, as I had not said anything to annoy them, they had decided that it was not worth the hassle to take it any further. Ha ha.

Good result! I've always had a great response from the French Police/Gendarmerie.

Me too. I don't think I've ever been nicked in France, an apology has always seen me on my way with a telling off.

I got pulled in the Campervan once for something or other, to this day I'm not entirely sure what I was doing wrong. I said something like
"Pardonnez-moi s'il vous plaît. Je suis Anglais et donc très stupide"
and he burst out laughing and sent us on our way with a warning not to do whatever it was again.

We hadn't done anything wrong. Crossed France a hundred times in cars, never liked their attitude. One rule for the French, a second one for Brits. Seemed like a good idea at the time. No-one was ticketed.

Years ago an old IBM colleague of my Dad's was stopped for speeding on a French autoroute by the Gendarmes.

Espying the UK registration plates, the officer observed (in french) "Monsieur is English".

My Dad's chum replied angrily (also in French) "No, Monsieur is Scottish. It greatly vexes me that you should accuse me of such a thing. After all, together we've been fighting those idiots for hundreds of years"

The Gendarme saluted him smartly, and enjoined him to have a pleasant stay in France, and to drive more carefully.

Yes. Drove over to Southwold for fish and chips with the in-laws in their new MX-5 (lovely car). Waved to a red classic going the other way to us on the A1120. We knew it was going to rain and it duly did on the way home )at Stowmarket). Didn’t spoil a great day out. (And yes, I put the hood up when it rained!).

Too wet to drive the Mog, I thought so was in the TinTop.....but yesterday ad about 5:45pm I passed a convoy of Morgans going south on the A36 between Salisbury and the New Forest.

It was monsoon like rain, they all had the hoods up. I hope they had all read DW's notes about waterproofing.

Was anyone here part of that convoy?

Yes!
Autumn has arrived here in Sweden, but with a sensible choise of clothing it is still possible to enjoy a drive in a Morgan.
Today I took mr Harris on a drive out to a golf course for lunch.

You do get a lot of looks when you drive a Morgan this time of year here.

Greetings from Sweden.

No but I've driven the DB7 to Derby. Came over the A69 instead of the A66 as it is partially shut from Brough.

White van man flashed several times and then drew parallel and wound down his window. Goodness knows what he was saying, I thought something was wrong. Checked car at Derby, nothing obvious, still driving like a sweetie.

Best Regards
