I had a lovely day yesterday, taking part in the local Distinguished Gentlemans Ride. For those who've probably never heard of this global event, it's themed co-ordinated charity highlighter and fundraiser for mens health issues in particular prostate cancer. Only men have a prostate gland, and those of us over the 50 year old mark have a greater risk of developing this cancer. I know it's a motorbike event, but I know many of the M3W crowd also take part and so it's as relevant to them as it is to everyone on here. Here in Northamptonshire I've had a hand in developing the event, and after having just half a dozen turn up on the event three years ago, yesterday saw over 160 turn up in their finery mounted on an amazing array for custom and vintage machinery. Triumph have got on board with the event in a big way, as the Classic range of Bonnevilles & Thruxton's fit the image so well, and as my youngest works for them it was a real joy to be able take part alongside him. I didn't have too much time to take photo's but I managed a few. We'd organised a finish point at one of my two locals (good skills I thought..) as it was their Oktober Bierfest with food & live music.. When everyone landed at the finish, I popped home, dropped the bike off & walked down with Mrs SBM for a sup of Germanic loony juice. I must confess to getting left there by Mrs SBM as she'd got things to do, so I wobbled home several hours later.. It's such an important subject, though. Here's a few pics not only of my day, but something to think of too.. [video:youtube] http://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=54&v=yrPptSdULbM[/video] This Thruxton was a joint collaboration between Hedon the helmet people and Down & Out Motorcycles.. Very trick, which probably doesn't come across in the snapshot, but all the electrics and battery are under the sump guard..! The obligatory 'Selfie'.. And me & me boy.. Finally, this..

Great photos, SBM! A good friend of mine, now living in California, posted some very similar images on Facebook of a gathering in, I think, Newport Beach south of LA. Many variations on your cravat/Norfolk combination, and one rather splendid (and awesomely rotund) gent in a charcoal grey pinstripe 3-piece.

It's a long time ago but in september 1995 I took part in a Motor Ride for MS (Multiple Sclerose). It was the fifth (and last) time it was organised and the turn out was 10300+ bikers (never seen in Belgium before and never again!). They raised about 100,000.00 euros.

Thanks for posting. Excellent initiative. Particularly relevant as my Father in Law died of Prostrate Cancer.
Love the pictures and the outfits.
