Its the airscoop Bob. Note how the louvres switch alignment.

I've often driven off without latching the bonnet and in my vast experience it never flies up! I wouldn't bother with a bonnet strap, more things to fall off or go wrong!!!

I had added those extra catches on two of my Roadsters. It is a cheap and secure add on. My current 4/4 seems to drive now more than 50.000 km without having the need but I always check the screws of the catches if they are tied.

I forgot to clip mine down once but all that happened was they wobbled a bit at 70mph. I imagine the louvres stop too much of a pressure differential for them to fly up or fold back. I soon got out and clipped them down though!

Exactly my thoughts as here

ETA: Cain at Wolf Performance showed me these last weekend which may offer an even neater solution to bonnet security - click for source.

Apparently used extensively in the racing world so little doubt about their integrity.

I have good fitting catches on my car. However, I am looking to fit rear extenders to help vent the underbonnet hot air. John Taylor was unable to supply as he was sorting something out with them so looking again. Anyone had any issues with extenders?

I installed the John Taylor extenders before the summer. Can't say I've been able to notice a difference in temps on my dodgy temperature gauge i.e. it still gets hot in traffic but Techniques told me they do help. And there have been no issues with the security of the cowlings.

I too have installed the JT extenders during this hot summer. I have noticed that the temperature gauge climbs more slowly than it did before when crawling in traffic but inevitably the fan still kicks in warm weather if stationary for any period.
It is important that the extension is fixed tightly in the hole that needs to be drilled for it in the retaining bracket. If not it perhaps could swivel and release the catch. As the lower edge of the bonnet flap will now be further from the middle rubber support by the wing I have replaced this with an old fashioned door stop which is of precisely the correct dimensions to fill the gap.
