Help, please! I have a really annoying steering wheel rattle that’s recently manifested itself on my 2017 3W. Its a Brooklands, and all the bolts are tight and it would appear to be the whole boss wobbling on the shaft. Any ideas for a fix?

Just a thought:
On my 2012 car, I've noticed that when the steering wheel is removed via the quick disconnect, when reinstalled it's possible to have it "latch" in a position that is not fully home on the shaft. In this intermediate position it's a bit wobbly. Re-seating fully home solves the issue.

Yes cheers - I’ve also noticed this. But it’s fully latched and it’s a transverse wobble, not in line with the steering column. Re-seated it a few times!

I've had the same annoying wobble which in my case was due to slight play between the column and quick-release fitting.
Remove the wheel and place some masking tape over the end of the column so that it covers approx 20mm of the splines each side. Refit the steering wheel - some more pressure than usual will be required to push it home but hopefully wobble/rattle will be gone!

Ah cheers Andy - that sounds like a good solution! It’s certainly exactly as you describe — play between the column and the quick-release fitting.

Have the same issue with my Brooklands. I'll try your fix Andy. Thanks.
andyjazz, I see you're from Hampshire. I'm Southampton myself. Anywhere near?

I also recommend the masking tape fix that Bunny has detailed. I have been using it for a few years and it works well, no more rattling steering wheel. Not so clever if you take the wheel off frequently though.

I dont have my car nearby to test but would a suitably sized O ring slid over the splines for the boss to press do the job?
