Can’t deny the quality of the footwell carpets is rather unsatisfactory but hey, it’s a Morgan!

My previous Roadster had done almost 50k miles at 14yrs old, never let us down, 2 or 3 sets of pads, one set of discs, original rear brakes (except cyls), no electrical or ECU issues, had to sort a minor radiator leak at 10yrs but easy as it was a proper brass one, I hated the 'plastic' king pin bushes, but some love 'em, eventually the rear shocker brackets failed (known issue) oh, and the hydraulic brake switch

It was meticulously maintained & was checked over before and after every run out as prevention is better than a failure

The metallic paint stayed in superb condition

Many items were 'upgraded' over the 11 years of ownership, but I do that with all my classics and consider it part of the cost of ownership

If the new 3.7 last as well, I'll be very happy

My S1 Roadster experience is pretty much the same. One broken damper mounting. Quite a few upgrades but nothing relating to quality of build at all.

i have consider for some time to add in my garage a M3W but after reading so many scary story i move on to a Pembleton with Guzzi engine i already have 17.000 mile and keep going with zero problem and all for almost half of the MMC one, i keep my Roadster until now so far so good, but i have fix several things in the winter time (poorly made).

MMC try to monetise their brand with Beer, Watch, Bike, Luggage, Leather Bag and so on, but they never consider: making a client happy cost you less than trying to find a new one. Of course they can think the competition is marginal until it will be too late.

I suspect that MMC seem to be happy selling replacement parts rather than dealing properly with quality.
It starts at the design stage where potential problems can be anticipated and good practice applied to design out weaknesses.
As for bought in parts....the onus for good quality is passed back to them with monitoring done to ensure compliance. 7nless, of course, parts are simply bought for cheapest versions. Japanese car makers were stringent about this supplier based reliance. Their assembly factories were held out as the best but partly due to pressure on suppliers both on quality and supply.
JIT =. Just in time
JIT. = Jesus! It’s there!
JIT = Japanese Induced Torture.
Take your pick!
JIT is superb if managed properly though. But often means suppliers are made to hold more stock/have good production control.
MMC? I think they still have room for improvement.
Brand placing? Easy money...many will buy out of brand loyalty/must have/ snob value....

I know you are joking but reading some experiences in this forum about the problems to get the needet spareparts makes me scared

"Free Extras" with the +4 110 anniversary model is a marketing gimmick, no more than that.
If those freebies simply included the fitting of good quality rack gaiters, sliding pillar gaiters, neoprene tubing wiper-wash tubes, quality shocks, alloy radiator, then the longevity and reliability would be immediately improved. Each of those items had to be replaced on my 2008 4/4.
These are essential components that would not cost the MMC too much to upgrade.
They only involve substitution and a small cost adjustment.
Call it the "Fully Sorted 110" if you like.
Forget branded wash bags, bicycles, umbrellas, tea shirts, flying jackets, watches, etc. oldgit

Maybe you havent realised but the branded bits make money for MMC whilst the extras you mention cost money

You arent seriously expecting the same sort of approach to quality from a tiny back street company like MMC and Toyota, one of the worlds biggest car makers?

MMC's lack of quality is cynical imo.
I'm not expecting mass production levels of quality but my Lotus of the same age is 10 times better. That's telling. Oh, and the Mog cost 50% more.

Having just got back from a long tour in the Mog the experience is wonderful, but I can't let that joy affect my objective criticism of MMC management. Lotus soaks up the good thrashing I give it whereas the Mog can't go on a cruising tour without generating another fault list. No wonder Keith at BHM always looks happy...... ah, tadts. We can fix that...

Why not ?

There are companies far smaller than Morgan that have much better practices in place.

Many of the issues discussed on TM have little or no cost implication in order to rectify or improve.

I have to say that I am in full agreement with the comments re. quality control. On my 3 year old +4, I have had to have the brake pipe that crosses the gear box X member re routed, I have had a total brake replacement , front and rear, a gear box out put shaft oil seal and other minor things.
The point has been well made that when these cars were considered cheap it wasn't such a problem but now we are in Porsche and Jaguar price ranges something has to be done.
I don't know if the company are ISO registered but that system allows that if you say you are going to produce rubbish and you can prove you do then you have succeeded.
However, with all that said, on a nice sunny day with everything in your favour, I bet none of us would swap our Moggies for anything else, well maybe a 275 GTB 4 cam, but that's about all. oldgit
