Dumb question.
Why does it need greasing? If you've ever jogged in a rough tee shirt, you'll understand.

I have put some self adhesive aluminium tape on the bonnet edges with Vaseline to lubricate. The paint on the bonnet edge was rubbing off in the area of the curve down. It does protect the folded bonnet edge but so far has needed replacement . I think on my car the drivers side bonnet curve sits tight to the bulkhead tape. I have thought of rubber strips instead of the bonnet tape but will wait until the next tape replacement to try some. One thing to watch for is that the tacks used are not protruding to contact the bonnet. I punch mine down.

This little maintenance job has passed me by until now.
Morganatica says lube annually or every 6000 miles with oil in the periodic checks.
It never even occurred to me that there would be any major fretting but I can see where the paint is wearing thin so I will re-lube it soon, probably with Vaseline as a first trial. Or maybe linseed oil.

The problem with lubing them is that eventually they become very dirty & greasy.
I have just replaced mine & lined the other side with the hoop side of Velcro tape to see if that will work without grease / wax.

That is why I use BeesWax John, slippy yet unlikely to ooze everywhere at temperature.
Bit like using candlewax on sash windows and drawers.

I use waxoil, rust proofing qualities where it touches the metal.
