What I want is a Leaf crossed with a 911. Come on VM's it is not hard Would I consider if: The range is 400 miles - that is 400 proper miles (guaranteed). The batteries can be disposed of/reused/recycled. The trade in value improves, they lose value like hell. They looked more normal, why so goofy? There needs to be many more charging points (non in my Town) This is from my perspective i.e. someone who does 35k per year.
Honesty means doing it right, even when no one is looking!

Shooter lives in the wilds of Shropshire, is no stranger to fast cars, and does galactic scale mileages. If he can live with an EV I guess anyone can?

I only use home charging and the Tesla supercharging network throughout Europe. Based on this, my second Tesla, my average annual mileage in it is 36,900.
Right now I am close to 62,000 miles and my battery has degraded around 3% from it's new capacity. This is fairly typical, average is between 4-6% over the first year or so and then it seems to slow or stop degrading completely. I cannot vouch for that as I haven't had either Tesla more than 2 years yet. So far I have never run out of charge anywhere.
I would say that 200 miles is my realistic range, perhaps 220 in warm weather and low wind and 175-180 in cold winter.
I think for the UK market that range is plenty. It is 3 hours of motorway driving and 4-4.5 hours of country road driving, surely plenty enough to want to have a break for 10-20 minutes or perhaps a lunch stop for 45-60 minutes.
The more empty a battery is, the quicker it charges. In 10 to 20 minutes I can get an extra 50 -100 miles of charge and 45-60 minutes I can get 150-225 miles of charge. Totally empty (in this one I've been down to 7 miles left) to totally full would take about 1 hour 40 minutes.
At home (single phase) I get 20-22 miles of charge per hour from my Tesla home charger. With 3-phase you could get 34-36 miles of charge per hour.

Tim's right, shooter has licked the sticky bit of the envelope for this sort of stuff. He has done serious mileage in S2-S4-S5 and has added the GTN and various other cars alongside bikes etc. He has been using his Tesla for some time and does mileage in it.
I also remember arriving at AMS Amsterdam airport five (?) years ago and seeing the taxi rank stuffed with Tesla being used as Taxi's. If they can survive that they can survive most things. The drivers mentioned problems with the rear motors being noisy and some issues with the sat-nav. That was a short list for a taxi driver in my experience, none of them bitched about range. Tesle got the spec requirements right from the early stages and took the hit on the high price knowing the needs.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

I will also stick my head over the parapet and admit to having a Leaf. On a winter morning you can defrost the windows, heat the cabin, put on the heated seats and steering wheel from an app on your phone.
I use mine for commuting locally and only had the public humiliation of public charging 3 times.
It has cost less than £300 to do 10,000mile.
Its nippy - have managed 120 miles on one charge [summer time] but normally my daily mileage is 60-70 mile so no bother. I have other vehicles for long distance trips. My daily driver is an i3 with very similar results, had it 2 1/2 yrs and would strongly consider going for one again The app linked to phone is good too, I can check range left before leaving for a meeting & if it's still plugged in can pre-condition with grid power so it's battery is still on max when I leave

Put like that, it is one hell of an achievement.
I would want a genuine 400 mile range, but that will come in time. My bladder doesn’t have a 400 mile range, I reckon I’m doing well if I do 150 miles before I need a comfort break. So you can stop, pee and a coffee and charge back up in 30-35 mins.

CooperMan I take it your i3 is the one with the uprated battery pack than the original?
I for one like the idea of a CF car, much less rot to be concerned with in the long term.
Pity the UK grant is dropping in December down to £3500, but then as more cars come on market the competition should in theory bring prices down thereby reducing the impact of the reduced grant.

No unfortunately just took delivery & they announced the bigger battery, I asked for a retro-fit 'ah no problem sir that will be £4500 please', so obviously being from Yorkshire I declined I'm getting 80-90 miles, so no problem to me as I have a 7kW wall point at home I must also admit it's an RE model so potentially you can just top up the petrol & hop to the next charger or petrol pump and do unlimited mileage, I like the RE version as I have zero range anxiety, but I do plan my trips & genuinely use it as a pukka EV I'm seriously considering another next year & the larger battery will come as a std bonus

The original was 60Ah/22kWh then 94Ah/33kWh and now it's 120Ah/42kWh, they were 60 when I first looked, but now it looks almost like they have removed the REx option with the 120Ah model?

I'm on the 94Ah, personally I think it's daft to drop the REx option, but then BMW stopped making the plug-in 3 Series which was very popular too
