Good afternoon. I have just returned from a trip to North East Spain in my M3W - great drive down everything performed as it should. The return trip was less successful. Following two torrential downpours (I'm not sure if it is relevant) my car broke down with minimal electrical current - one of the rubber mountings on the regulator had broken. I was unable to restart the car which has now been collected from France and returned to the UK. This is the second regulator to fail (I'm assuming its the regulator as the breakdown symptoms were the same both times)Has anyone had similar issues and do you know of a fix/good relocation of the regulator to stop it happening again. Hi Michael,

The regulators are a known weak spot.

If you replace the standard regulator then swap out the rubber mounts for Caterham ones which last much longer:

Otherwise switch to a Harley regulator which can be bolted directly to the mounting plate without the rubbers:

Failed regulators were a popular topic on TalkMorgan during the early years of M3W production. Check this THREAD out for starters.

Basically it boils down to three points:
- Make sure the regulator has a very good ground connection.
- Move the regulator off the engine so that it doesn't get shaken to death.
- If you want to go the whole hog, replace it with a Harley Davidson type. These appear to be bullet proof.
