Hi All,
Can someone explain to me how the cooling system of a 4/4 released in 11/2001 with a standard 1.8L Zetec works.
-How the fan is started (probe in the radiator or ECU controlled) ? -Where is the temperature probe for the ECU ? -Where is located the relay that controls the fan ? -All pertinent information to find why the fan doesn't start...
Thank you very much.
Best regards.
Daniel.

Wiggle all the wires to and from the fan. check the fan fuse. that's a start.

It sounds like it could very well be the relay (often go!). On my 2002 4/4 with Zetec the relay is one of the three that are mounted in the stainless steel box (with flip up lid) that also holds the fuses. Mounted on the middle of the bulkhead inside the engine bay. I would certainly try a replacement. The other relays (same type)are for the ECU (I believe) and the Fuel Pump. (in Morgan style there may be no consistency as to which is which!)
I believe the ECU controls the fan as I had an embarrassing similar problem last year that I could not fix even after replacing relay only to find after going to the dealer that the relay that I was using to replace the faulty was also faulty!!

Hi All, Yes you are right, we found a failed relays. I got the same trouble 2 months ago on my 2003 Plus 8, but didn't use the same Bosh relay. I use now a BMW 30A white injection relay which has the advantage of two diodes on the coil (one on the - and one on the +). It is not important on a Plus 8 where the fan relay is managed by the otter switch in the radiator, but important in a 4/4 because the relay is directly operated by the ECU and this is an additional security. Moreover these relays are water resistant and it is important in a Morgan engine bay. As we cannot get a new relay on the week end, we will wait up to Monday to see if the problem is fixed. BR. Daniel.

Glad you found it.. I replaced with a unit from 'Eurospares' here in UK and describe the part number (I assume also available in Europe!) of a similar and what appears more rugged relay. I described this as an early tip on my Le Mans 62 website here

I described this as an early tip on my Le Mans 62 website here Hi, It is from what I found on this site I thought to a BMW relay and I extensively tested it successfully. It was easier and less expensive to go to the BMW dealer near home to get this stuff. BR. Daniel.

Hi All, The relay came today, has been installed and… All is OK. It was the relay which was failing. Thank you very much to all contributors. BR. Daniel.
PS: I would like to know where is the so hidden probe…
